Description

Join us for the 3rd annual edition of NCT South America! The 2020 edition will take place from 4-5 February 2020 and return to Bogotá, Colombia. The CBRNe Society has partnered with the Chemical Information Center of Peru (CINQUI) in organizing NCT South America 2018 and their President Mr. José Agüero will again chair the 2020 edition! CINQUI is a non-profit organization that provides information and support in case of emergencies involving hazardous materials.

South America has seen an increase in awareness in CBRNe threats in the past years, with a successful fight against corruption, and the strengthening of government institutions, states are bringing their attention to other security threats. Progress is undeniable, but longstanding regional issues prevail, as anti-government militia still play a major role both in the illicit drug tradeand in terrorism in the region. Moreover, diffuse UXO and mine contamination also represents a persisting regional security concern, which is being addresses through comprehensive measures.

The Zika virus pandemic of 2015-2016 has taught the region and the entire world, valuable lessons regarding the containment and control of viral epidemics, shedding light on faults related to the structure of the health system in South America and the international response to this infectious disease. These developments underline the need for adaptive response mechanisms, effective bio-surveillance systems, new vaccines and better treatment methods.

The conference will bring together both high-level speakers discussing regional CBRNe challenges and threats, as well as a vibrant exhibition. By welcoming government delegations, leading first responders and decision-makers from both the CBRNe and EOD community, NCT South America 2020 is the place to be.
