Event description

Description

The work group is designed primarily for teaching colleagues within schools who would like to enhance their mathematical subject knowledge in order to teach more effectively.

It is ideally suited to those returning to the profession after a career break, NQTs or NQTS +1. We would also welcome applications from higher level teaching assistants who plan and assess for groups of children.

  • The work group aims to provide participants with both the subject knowledge and associated pedagogical knowledge to enable them to teach primary mathematics. Key content will include number sense, place value, mathematical operations and fractions.
  • Participants will gain a deeper understanding of content, how learning progresses throughout primary school and teaching techniques and activities that can be used to support this.
  • Participants will consider the importance of developing pupils’ positive mindset. Participants will be encouraged to consider pupil’s different learning styles using a range of manipulatives, table top learning, outdoor/out of seat learning, independent learning, paired and group learning.

Participants will be asked to complete a structured learning log to guide their thinking and reflection.

All sessions will include references to: -

- Planning for Mastery

- Use of manipulatives

- Visual representations

- Questioning and use of mathematical vocabulary
