About this Event

The Nuts and Bolts of Starting and Maintaining Groups that Thrive

Presenter: Ann Steiner, Ph.D., MFT, CGP, Fellow AGPA

This primarily didactic workshop provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the different types of group work, ways to evaluate their preferred leadership style, how to design, setup and maintain healthy psychotherapy groups. Common challenges, the importance of screening, preparation, and termination agreements will be discussed as they apply to participant’s needs.

This workshop will provide tools that are crucial to starting, maintaining and enriching psychotherapy groups. Material will be presented at a postdoctoral level. By participating in this workshop participants will learn screening and preparation techniques. As a result of becoming more knowledgeable about the core issues listed below, workshop participants will be better able to provide quality group experiences for their clients.

2 CE units will be offered for completion of this course. You must chose the option to purchase these credits upon registration.

About the presenter:

Ann Steiner. Ph.D., MFT, CGP, FAGPA has been leading and consulting about various types of groups for 30 years. She is a former Associate Clinical Professor, UC Medical School, S.F.; Founding Member and Faculty member, Psychotherapy Institute’s Group Therapy Training Program, since 2005; former Board Member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, and Past President of NCGPS. The second edition of her book How to Create and Sustain Groups that Thrive: A Therapist’s Workbook and Planning Guide, Routledge Books will be released in May, 2020. She is passionate about the healing power of groups, and leads four groups in her private practice in Lafayette. She has taken the lead in teaching about and leading therapy groups for therapists and groups for the medically ill. As a professional speaker, she enjoys speaking to international organizations and teaching Law and Ethics workshops about her pioneering work with The Therapist’s Professional Will.

NCGPS is approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing education for Psychologists, which also satisfies the requirements of the BBS as a provider of continuing education for LCSW’s, LMFT’s, LPCC’s, and LEP’s. NCGPS satisfies the CE requirements for the Nursing Board. NCGPS maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Full attendance is required to receive credit.
