Description

The Human Potential Running Series will be hosting an online webinar on Thursday, October 26th at 7pm that will focus on map reading skills, and a discussion on the basics of compass use. The webinar is free to view and will be hosted on the Human Potential Running Series Facebook Page via Facebook LIVE. This in field portion will be held on the Saturday immediately following and is for those who wish to put what we discuss in the webinar, into action.

If you plan to attend this field portion of the navigation clinic we highly suggest you view and particiate in the Facebook Live Webinar on Thursday the 26th. If you cannot attend the LIVE webinar on Thursday Night, we'll be sure to save the episode on our Facebook Page so it can be viewed after the fact at anytime.. before the in field clinic and after.

FOR THE IN FIELD DAY

What Are We Doing: We'll be using the local area map, to learn how to navigate like experts out in the field. We'll incorporate a lot off trail travel, and on trail travel, so we can cover all of the bases. We'll also be bringing the basic compass in the equation, so we can all know how to properly and accurately use such a tool.

Where to meet: Indian Creek Campground Trailhead on CO Hwy 67, Sedalia, CO.
There is a $6 per car fee at the trailhead. You are responsible for paying this fee on your own.

When to meet: Let's all plan to be ready to rock, in the parking lot, for 8:30am on Saturday, October 28th

What to bring:
• Weather appropriate gear for the day (We'll email you a few days prior).
• We will be travelling off trail (mostly) and some on trail (at the end).
• If you have a compass, please bring it. Let's stick with very basic compasses for now.. keep the compass with the extra mirror, bells, whistles, etc at home.. you'll never need that one and this is a beginner course.
• HPRS has a limited number of compasses (12) that we will bring for educational purposes as well.
• Food and drink for yourself, and maybe some to share, for the day.
• DO NOT wear your favorite running/hiking shoes. You will be off trail and in some gnarly shizz. Your shoes will be wrecked some. Same goes for any pants, tights, shorts, and shirts. Wear things you don't mind getting snagged in a tree or thorn bush.
• Bring a headlamp, and some first aid supplies, just in case. We'll bring some too!
• A willingness to learn, some kick ass questions, a good attitude, some lousy jokes, and your phone for pictures.

This class is being administered by HPRS RD "Sherpa" John Lacroix. John acquired his Bachelor's of Sciene in Kinesiology: Outdoor Education from the award winning program at the University of New Hampshire. He brings his years of experience in the outdoors, and outdoor teaching, to HPRS with the hopes of creating a more self sufficient running tribe. The Barkley Awaits!
