Description

The Wisconsin Adoption and Permanency Support Program is hosting a workshop for adoptive and foster parents on how to Navigate the Teen Years. The challenge of building an identity while struggling with uncertainty (and often trauma) is complex. This presentation will highlight unique aspects of adolescent development, including concerns that are commonly seen during adolescence: self-harm, precocious sexuality, anxiety, and depression. Case examples and resources will be provided to support families to navigate the murky waters of adolescence.

Presenter:
Samantha Wilson, Ph.D., IMH-E® IV
Dr. Wilson is a Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. In this role, she provides pre-adoption education, post-adoption assessment and child/family therapy within the adoption community. She has numerous publications regarding adoption, institutional care, attachment, and early child development.
