Event Information
Description
This workshop is intended for parents who have children with any type of special needs or suspected special needs. Come and learn about how and when a child would qualify for special education services in the public school system.
We'll cover these important topics:
-
How to effectively make the transition from early intervention programming to school district special education services,
-
Understanding your rights under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), what should happen in the assessment process, and how to establish measurable goals and objectives.
-
Discover the variety of services a school district can provide and when mainstreaming a child is more appropriate.
Tips on how to develop a collaborative relationship with the school district will be discussed, as well as what recourse parents have when parents and school district personnel don't agree about the assessment process. With Diana Blank, LCSW.
