Learn how to navigate diabetes & get a free A1C test!

Diabetes can get overwhelming, especially in the grocery store with thousands of items to chose from! In this presentation grocery store Dietitian Melanie Taylor will show you how grocery products can fit into a healthy and delicious diabetes meal plan. And yes, you can include your favorite foods and stay within your carbohydrate limit! This is a great opportunity to learn or refresh your label reading and carbohydrate counting skills.

In recognition of World Diabetes Day, everyone in attendance will receive a voucher for a free A1C test at the Public Health Department. The A1C test involves a simple finger prick. You will get your results within a few minutes, placing you in the range of normal, prediabetic, or diabetic. To receive a free A1C test you must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Washington, Iron, Kane, Garfield, or Beaver County.

As a native to St. George, Melanie has passion for teaching people in Utah’s Dixie how to eat well whatever their circumstances may be. Melanie has personal and professional involvement with diabetes and celiac disease which make her a valuable resource to people with specific health concerns. Her passion for good food and cooking help her relate to everyone who appreciates a good meal!

After earning a bachelor’s degree at Southern Utah University, Melanie completed the Coordinated Master’s Program in Nutrition at the University of Utah. Since becoming a registered dietitian in 2002, she has worked in areas of education, food service, and nutrition consulting and is now part of the Harmons Grocery team.
