Description

Enjoy art and nature by experiencing site specific work with BGI at the Naval Cemetery Landscape for our Season Closer on Open House NY Weekend!

Brooklyn Greenway Initiative has selected two winning projects: Birdhouse a movement piece choreographed by Caylee Shimizu *Saturday Only*, and ROW an audio installation by Lisa Hein & Robert Seng *Saturday and Sunday.*

BGI chose these artists for their site-specific focus and interest in drawing inspiration from the ecology and history of the site. These works complement one another and enhance the experience of the site in powerful and different ways.

This event is being held in conjunction with Open House New York Weekend which provides the public with the unique opportunity to explore sites all over New York City not typically open to the public. Developed and implemented by the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, the Naval Cemetery Landscape is a 1.7 acre native plant and pollinator habitat with a wildflower meadow, designed with a undulating boardwalk to respect the hallowed ground of the site, this location allows for visitors to take a break from the urban environment and access a moment of reflection in nature.

In addition to these presentations BGI is also offering tours by the principal landscape architect Jeffrey Longhenry and horticulture specialist of the site Penn Marchael. In collaboration with ROW, David Watson will perform occasional new works based on nautical themes between 1 and 3pm. *Sunday Only*

We hope to see you there during this special weekend to celebrate nature and history in this unique location.
