As a lifelong natural, Mumbi was inspired to create Naturaz when she observed and researched extensive levels of hair loss (alopecia) experienced by women of all ages, globally. She discovered that the persistence of non-genetic alopecia is largely driven by poor consumer choices that are in response to curly and coily hair being intrinsically dry, easy to tangle and requiring a great deal of management. This frustration leads to the use of harsh grooming methods that include tight braids, heat and corrosive chemicals like sodium hydroxide all of which can temporarily or permanently damage the hair and the scalp. In addition, she found that many products used by women of color have ingredients that can disrupt estrogen levels thus contributing to estrogen related problems like the growth of uterine fibroids.

Armed with this knowledge and a passion to bring about change in curly/coily hair care, she used her chemistry, health and technology background to formulate the highly moisturizing Naturaz product line.
