Event description

Description

Designer, artist, educator and native Oregonian, Julie Beeler (http://www.bloomanddye.com), will teach a one-evening workshop to illustrate the use of natural dyes using 2 types of unique cocoon silks made in Madagascar. Each student will receive 6 samples of Ceranchia silk weave and 6 samples of Borocera silk. The Ceranchia cocoons were collected from a high elevation, second growth habitat and the Boroceracocoons from a lowland, rainy site. Hence, they protect developing insects in very different types of habitats and the properties of the silk differ. Students will have a chance to dye the 2 types of silks 6 different colors and experiment with adding iron to the dye-posts as well as over dyeing. You will have the opportunity to purchase additional sheets of cocoon silk in A4 size pieces to continue your experiments and artwork at home!
