Natural Dye Workshop - West Elm Bondi
Thu. 27 October 2016, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm AEDT
Join us to explore the journey into natural dyeing. Learn traditional natural dye methods that we use when collecting seasonal, local plants to make our own dyes used in our Eastern Weft workshop.
Samorn will show you how to extract colour from local garden leaves, flowers, vegetables and even compost! You will create colours to dye an organic ramie cushion cover and cotton samples. Take home samples of the dyes you make on the day. It took years to develop and understand the process. Once you learn a few techniques you can start experimenting to create your own colours and patterns right in your own home.
We will discuss local native plants, berries and flowers, their dyeing properties, how to extract the colour and methods used to obtain different shades of pigments. Finally, some basic techniques used to set our dyes.
You will receive an organic ramie cushion to take away as your very own creation.
Join us for lots of creativity, conversation and fabulous colours all created by Mother Nature!
