In 1944, Béla Bartók completed his final work, the

Solo Violin Sonata, Sz. 117. Written for virtuoso

Yehudi Menuhin, it was premiered in New York in

September that same year. And it has been

challenging violinists ever since. Written around

the same time as Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra,

the Solo Sonata presents some of the finest

musical ideas from the modern classical era. In

addition, Nato will be presenting Eugene Ysaÿe’s

Sonata No. 2 from the Six Solo Sonatas for Violin,

Op. 27, in addition to the delightful Solo Sonata

from Sergei Prokofiev, Op. 115, written for violin

alone, or for many synchronous violins.
