Event description
Take a trip to learn about Native California and weave your own canoe!

About this Event

Peopleologie/Linda Janklow will begin the afternoon with an interesting slide show and artifacts, taking you to our own seashore, bay lands, hills, and backyards to honor our first peoples. Learn about the sustained traditions of making baskets, boats, and baby carriers--all from native plants. AND, you will weave your own mini canoe or raft to try out in your favorite body of water!

Workshop for all 8 years of age to 108! (Note: Ages 5-7 can also attend with an adult 1:1. Ticket required for all ages.)

Before or after the workshop, enjoy time in the East Gallery with an exhibition of plein air paintings, "Along the Ohlone-Portola Trail" and learn about the accidental sighting of the San Francisco Bay by Spanish explorers 250 years ago! The exhibition is free, with gallery hours from 1 - 5pm Fri, Sat, Sun.

The exhibit is sponsored by Don Horsley, Supervisor, SMC District 3.
