National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities.
There will be numerous volunteer events going on during this week. Listed below are the events sponsored by the Service & Leadership Council as well as other student organization partners.
*Each participant can sign up for any or all of the events*
Let's make National Volunteer Week a week that is filled with volunteers! If you sign up, please attend! Changes do happen, so email email@example.com if your schedule no longer permits you to volunteer.

Saturday, April 11th 8am
Parking lot by Hillside-Jennings Apartments
Join UNI Hardwoods in planting trees and improving the habitat in the area. A t-shirt, pizza, and drinks will be provided on the day of the event. This is a fun event for volunteers to socialize, plant trees, and help the environment! If you have gloves or a shovel, please bring them to the event. Take a picture of your favorite tree and upload it to Facebook #UNIFavoriteTree, and even check out the UNI Hardwoods Facebook page!
Adopt a Grandparent
Monday, April 13th 3:00-4:15pm
Join St. Stephen's for "Adopt a Grandparent!" Volunteers hang out with residents of Cedar Falls Healthcare Center to provide an uplifting part of the resident's day. Participants can interact with residents by making puzzles, conversing, helping out with daily tasks, and more! Transportation is provided for this event. Meet at St. Stephen's on 23rd Street at 3:00pm to participate. Sign up by midnight on Friday, April 10th.
SLC Service Projects
Monday, April 13th 6-8pm
Mauker Union Ballroom
We're doing service projects in Mauker Union! We'll have a room full of service projects. Come as long as you'd like, for 15 minutes or 2 hours! We'll be doing a variety of service projects to help others in need. Some of the projects include:
- Creating literacy kits for children
- Making fleece blankets for local children's hospitals
- Making place mats for the Food Bank
- Creating bird houses for a nursing home
- Putting together an Act of Kindness for our facility & maintenance crews here at UNI
- Decorating picture frames with poems for nursing homes/hospitals
- AND MORE!
SLC Volunteer Tuesdays
Tuesday, April 14th 3:30-5:30 or 5:30-7:30
Center for Multicultural Education (CME - upstairs Mauker Union)
We will be volunteering at the Cedar Valley Arboretum this week. There are two sessions for volunteers. Sign up for the time that works best for your schedule! Meet in the CME, and transportation and a snack will be provided. Volunteers will be assisting with various sustainability projects at the Arboretum to improve our planet. Please wear clothing that you won't mind getting dirty. Come volunteer with us!
SLC Stop & Serve
Wednesday, April 15th 11am-2pm
Mauker Union next to Chats
Stop for 5 minutes or 30! Make a miniature chia pet for kids by planting a cup of grass, or use old sheets to make dog toys for the Humane Society! Every little bit helps! Make a difference today!
SLC Help A Child
Thursday, April 16th 4-6pm
Center For Multicultural Education (Upstairs Mauker Union)
We will be volunteering at the Waterloo Boys and Girls Club. Come spend two hours making a difference in the life of a Child! We will meet at the CME, top floor of the union, and take a bus there! Volunteers will spend their time doing a variety of tasks with the kids, playing games, help with homework, etc. Please wear clothes you can play and run around in!

SLC Spring Cleaning
After winter, we all have things to clean out of our closets! Donate it during National Volunteer Week! There will be a drop-off box in the Student Involvement Center (upstairs Mauker Union) all week! Let's help others with our extra clothing items!
