Please join the Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services in honoring Maine's Vietnam Veterans at the National Vietnam War Veterans Day Ceremony

About this Event

On Friday, March 27th the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services (MBVS) will host a recognition ceremony for Vietnam Veterans. The ceremony will take place at the Augusta Armory from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Vietnam Veterans who wish to attend the ceremony should register online (at this site) and contact the Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services to ensure the Bureau has their DD214, for certification purposes. Veterans who register will be presented with a Certificate of Appreciation, a Vietnam Veteran Coin, and a 50th Anniversary Lapel Pin.

Registration for the event is free for all wishing to attend.

1:00 p.m. – Present Colors and National Anthem

1:05 p.m. – Welcoming Remarks by MBVS Director David Richmond

1:15 p.m. – Peter Mills, U.S. Navy Veteran and Executive Director of the Maine Turnpike Authority

1:20 p.m. – Music by Blind Albert

1:25 p.m. - Major General Douglas Farnham addresses the audience.

1:30 p.m. – Proclamation read by Governor Janet Mills.

1:35 p.m. – Music by Blind Albert

1:40 p.m. – Taps and Wreath laying in front of the Vietnam War Plaque.

1:45 p.m. – MBVS Director Richmond invites Veterans and visitors to:

• Enjoy the Vietnam era informational posters and photographic displays taken by Boothbay Region Vietnam Veterans during the war.

• Participate in Veterans’ Recognition (certificates, coins, and pins).

• Speak with Joy Asuncion U.S. Navy Veteran and Maine’s Ambassador for the Women’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. to register any female veterans and to learn more about the Honor Flight Program.

• Visit the VA, Vet Centers, American Legion, VFW, DAV, National Guard, and MBVS tables.

• Enjoy musical entertainment by Blind Albert and light refreshments in the rotunda.

• The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services would also like to recognize every Veteran in the audience who missed a birthday at home because they were serving in the United States Military during the war.

1:45 p.m. – Veterans and their guests are free to enjoy the festivities for as long as they like.

4:00 p.m. – National Vietnam War Veterans Day Celebrations concludes for the day.
