Event description


The Great Barn in Great Coxwell has been a focal point within the West Oxfordshire landscape for centuries. It’s time to raise the roof! On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May, the Barn is hosting a family friendly Festival of the Arts, offering a wide range of separately ticketed events covering all aspects of the Arts. Events are as diverse as Shakespeare to drumming, medieval storytelling to Comedians.

A children’s treasure trail is available including lots of free family craft activities including pebble painting, mask making, and drawing.

The site is free to attend and there will be a number of free community performances for the whole family to enjoy throughout the day. All other performances are ticketed.

From 5.00pm - 7.30pm there will be free music, food vans and a bar

All events are separately bookable through Eventbrite

Mad Hatters Tea Party £15

Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th – 11.00 – 1.00

Join Alice and the Mad Hatter as they try and solve the riddle of the missing white rabbit. An interactive actor led experience. Includes a fully catered tea party with the Mad Hatter himself

Circus Skills Workshop £6

Saturday 26th May, 11.00am – 12.00pm & 12.00pm – 1.00pm

The perfect way for any age to be introduced to the fun world of circus skills such as juggling, plate spinning, poi, ribbon, diabolo, feather balance, pedal go and stilts

Shakespeare in a Suitcase – A Midsummer Nights Dream £6

Saturday 26th May, 1.30pm – 2.30pm

Using mainly modern English, this interactive family show fully encourages audience participation and provides a great introduction to the inventiveness of Shakespeare.

African Drumming Workshop £6

Saturday 26th May, 2.30pm – 3.30pm

From complete musical novice to professional musician, drumming is a great way to get children and adults alike excited about music

Shakespeare in a Suitcase – Macbeth £6

Saturday 26th May, 3.30pm – 4.30pm

Macduff invites you to hear his haunting tale of the murderous Macbeth’s, complete with broadsword battles, witches dances and bloody horror. Modern English adaptation for older children

Raise the Rafters - Live Jazz featuring 6 PLUS 1 £10

Saturday 26th May, 8.00pm – 11.00pm

Eat, drink and laugh with the hugely entertaining Simon Currie’s 6PLUS1, a virtuoso jazz band with New Orleans, Ska, Rock, and Funk influences and a comedy edge.

Spontaneous Storytelling with Michael Loader £4

Sunday 27th May, 1.00pm – 2.00pm

Michael Loader will tell and perform you a tale never told before... YOUR WORDS... You may even end on stage yourself!

Candy Floss Comedy Club - Paul Duncan McGarrity £4

Sunday 27th May, 2.00pm – 3.00pm

This kid friendly show is a traditional comedy club set with most of the really naughty bits taken out and with just enough left in to keep the kids giggling and provide playground fodder for a quite a while!

"Sword Age, Axe Age" Viking Stories £4

Sunday 27th May, 3.00pm - 3.50pm

Bring the past to life with this exciting collection of tales from Viking times told by a traditional Viking storyteller!

Twelfth Night @ The Great Barn £14

Sunday 27th May, 7.00pm - 9.00pm

Enriched with passion, wit and live music, this is a vibrant and intimate production of Twelfth Night. Enjoy this festive take on Shakespeare’s most delightful and thought-provoking comedy.

Art Masterclass @ The Great Barn £10

Be inspired and learn to draw surrounded by the beauty of an ancient Scheduled Monument and its rolling Oxfordshire countryside. Aged 10+

Ask an Archaeologist Comedy Club

Sunday 27th May, 5.00pm – 6.00pm

Sit down comedy show about life as an Archaeologist, Vikings and Shakespeare’s naughty side.
