National Transgender HIV Testing Day (NTHTD), Survival is Resistance, is an observance designed to recognize the importance of routine HIV testing, status awareness and continued focus on HIV prevention and treatment efforts among transgender people. The observance is organized by the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health and led locally by trans community. #TransHIV #NTHTD
In the United States, it is estimated that around 1.4 million adults identify as transgender. Transgender women are especially at high risk of having HIV and of contracting HIV. Trans women of color, especially black/African American and Hispanic/Latina women, experience disproportionately high rates of HIV1, testing positive for HIV more often than Caucasian trans women. HIV prevalence among African American trans women is approximately 56%, whereas the prevalence among Caucasian trans women is approximately 17%. There is a gap in research on HIV and trans men; few studies have gathered HIV prevalence data for this population. Events like NTHTD help us close these gaps.
Please refrain from wearing scents. Here is a page on how and why to be scent free. http://ccohs.ca/oshanswers/hsprograms/scent_free.html
Youngstown Cultural Center is on the 120 & 125 line. It is a ADA building but the entrance situation is a bit complicated. All of the doors are manual. There is a ramp in the front of the building and a lift or it is possible to enter from the back and bypass the ramp and lift. There are 8 stairs up to the main door where the ramp is and three steps were the lift is. The side parking lot entrance has no barriers except a small ramp inside the building. We are in the Theatre. Email info at radicalcare.org or pm us here for more info.
