Description

June 3, 2017 – National Trails Day at Lehigh Gap

Celebrate National Trails Day with LGNC and the D&L National Heritage Corridor. Enjoy family-friendly activities, including a Butterfly Safari, Life in a Pond, and Birding Around the Osprey House. There will also be a tour of our native plant gardens. The day will culminate with a hike up Translater Lane to the top of the mountain by dusk and then listen for Whip-poor-wills on the way back down in the dark. Bring your sense of adventure!

Schedule:

10am-2pm: Pond life exhibit, including the opportunity to handle live reptiles and amphibians!

9-10am: Join our birding walk to search for a variety of colorful breeding birds in grassland, scrub, forest, and riparian habitats. Bring binoculars or borrow a pair from us.

11am-12pm: 4B walk. Look for birds, butterflies, bugs and blooms with a seasoned naturalist. We will provide nets and binoculars to assist in our exploration.

1-2pm: Native Plant Garden Tour. Take a guided tour through our ADA accessible native plant garden and learn about the value of these beautiful plants to wildlife.

7-8:30/9pm: Whip-poor-will Hike. Meet at the Osprey House at 6:45 pm or at the Translater Lane Parking lot at 7:00 pm. We will hike up Translater Lane to the top of the mountain by dusk and then listen for Whip-poor-wills on the way back down in the dark. Bring a flashlight if you wish.
