Event description

Description

Directed by Sam Mendes

A tour de force, The Lehman Trilogy has been universally praised by critics and was an overwhelming hit at the Park Ave. Armory in NY and in London. It will make its Broadway debut early in 2020. Sam Mendes (Oscar for American Beauty) directs Simon Russell Beale (2 Olivier Awards), Adam Godley and Ben Miles who play the Lehman Brothers, their sons and grandsons in a superb acting ensemble.

The play explores the vicissitudes of American capitalism through the 164-year-history of Lehman Brothers, from when Henry Lehman, a German Jew, first migrated to the US and opened his store in Alabama, to the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. that exacerbated the 2008 financial crisis. It begins in 1844 when a young man from Bavaria stands on a New York dockside dreaming of a new life in this strange new world. He is soon joined by his two brothers and an American epic begins which lasts for 163 years until the firm they established – Lehman Brothers – spectacularly collapses into bankruptcy, and triggers the largest financial crisis in history. The directing, extraordinary acting and a brilliantly designed set make this a memorable event.
