Event description

CDC/ATSDR Built Environment Work Group is hosting a Bring Your Own Lunch Picnic and Piedmont Park History Walking Tour in honor of National Park Rx Day on April 29. Please see additional details below

  • Bring Your Own Lunch (BYOL) Picnic - 11:45 AM: We will meet at the 12th ST NE and Piedmont Ave. Park Entrance at 11:45 AM. Please bring your own lunch, beverages, and a blanket if you wish to join us for a informal picnic. Unfortunately, there are no picnic tables available without a fee so we will just setup on the grass near the 12th St & Piedmont Ave park entrance.

  • Piedmont Park History Walking Tour - 1:00 PM: If you would just like to only join us for the walking tour, please meet us at the 12th ST NE and Piedmont Ave. Park Entrance at 1:00 PM. The Piedmont Park History Walking Tours include an introduction to the park’s vibrant past and present. Walk with us and discover how Piedmont Park’s rich history is undeniably intertwined with the development of Atlanta. Together, we’ll explore the fascinating historical and physical evolution of iconic Piedmont Park from forest to farm to fairgrounds for the Piedmont Exposition of 1887 and the Cotton States and International Exposition of 1895, to Atlanta’s premier urban green space. Additional details below:

    • The tour lasts 60-90 minutes.

    • Attendees should dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.

    • Dogs are welcome, BUT they are not allowed on the Active Oval (sports fields). So, depending upon the number of dogs, the guide may change to tour path or just ask the dog owner to take the road around the Active Oval and meet the rest of the tour on the other side.

    • $5 per person donation: Thank you for your donations! Your donations will support our tour program and the preservation of Piedmont Park. Please bring $5 cash per person.

    • Please RSVP with the number of attendees by April 24 so we can let the tour organizers know.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Two Marta stations are nearby: Midtown and Arts Center.

Upon exiting the Midtown Station, take 10th Street towards Peachtree Street and continue on 10th until you reach Piedmont Avenue. Turn left on Piedmont Avenue and walk two blocks to the 12th and 14th Street gates of Piedmont Park. (or you can continue walking on 10th Street and the park will soon be on your left side).

Exit the Arts Center Station heading south on West Peachtree street for one block. Head east (go left) on 14th Street for three blocks until you reach the 14th Street entrance to the Park.

Parking Garage

The parking garage is in the center of the park, and is great for visitors, especially those on their first visit. The Park shares a parking deck with the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the rate is typically based on the amount of time you spend in the park. Piedmont Park access is on the lowest floor.

Address to Parking Garage: 1320 Monroe Drive, Atlanta, GA 30306

The garage is off of Monroe Drive on Worchester Drive, or visitors can enter off Piedmont Avenue at the Atlanta Botanical Garden entrance. The park is accessed from the lowest floor.
