Retirement Security for All Working Oregonians
Tuesday, May 28, 2013
2:30 – 4:30 pm
Hearing Room 50, Oregon State Capitol
Did you know that nearly half of Oregonians aged 25-64 are not covered by a retirement plan at work? Many of these Oregonians are at risk of living in poverty when they retire – unable to cover basic living and medical expenses. Unless we create retirement security for all working Oregonians, we face a growing crisis that will severely impact Oregon’s social safety net and the state budget.
On Tuesday, May 28th, the Retirement in Reach Coalition, together with Treasurer Ted Wheeler, Representative Jules Bailey, and Senator Lee Beyer, will host an informational session and panel discussion on retirement security for all working Oregonians.
We are delighted to have three national experts share their perspective about this issue nationally and how Oregon can help create a solution. The national experts are :
- David John is the Senior Strategic Policy Advisor at the AARP Public Policy Institute, focusing on pension and retirement savings issues.
- Nari Rhee is the Managing Researcher at the National Institute on Retirement Security. She has extensive experience conducting policy and economic research on public and private pensions and retirement security with a focus on low- and middle-wage workers.
- Teresa Ghilarducci is the Director of the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis at The New School. She is an economist and author who has investigated the effect of pension losses on older Americans and proposed cutting-edge solutions for retirement security.
We hope you will join us for an opportunity to learn more about how Oregon can develop a solution that provides secure retirement options for all working Oregonians – and save the state money in the long run.
