Event description

Description

January 2011, Health & Awareness host its first kidney dance marathon to raise awareness; since then we have participated in hundreds of local health fairs and presentation at no cost.

We have host free kidney bowling events for low income families to promote good health and supplied school items to low income students.

The numbers of people in Hampton Roads with kidney disease risk factors are unbelievable. I discovered 97% of the people I spoke at last year’s health fairs with kidney disease risk factors had no idea they were at risk for kidney disease. And the raising numbers of children’s requiring dialysis treatment or needing a kidney transplants should be unacceptable, because the majority of people on dialysis could have been preventive.

My passion and determination to educate the public on early prevention grew stronger as chronic kidney disease increased. The number of people died from chronic kidney disease in Virginia went from 11th in July 2014 to 9th in December 2015. And the number of individuals that elect not to take dialysis treatment took the Conservative management – they choice to die. The majority of the free health fairs and presentation I participated in throughout Hampton Roads were funded using out of pocket funds.

Therefore it is most important to the community that you accept this invitation to join us at the National Kidney Month celebration and support the cause in one or both of the following fundraising ways;

Two nights suiite get-away at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel & Conference Center; 2800 Shore Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. (Upgrade options available). Enjoy a relaxing suite vacation surrounded by warm bay breezes, soft light of the setting sun and the gentle lapping of the Chesapeake Bay waves. Health & Awareness guest attnding the Kidneys & Women's Health event get a special rate of $98. Call 757.481-9000, request to talk to Cheryl Wolf ext 2019.
