National Ice Cream Day: Ice Cream and History of Mission Walking Tour

Join Jennifer Ng, author of the Ice Cream Travel Guide, for a delightful walking tour of South Mission- with history and ice cream! The tour will begin at Guerrero Park and makes stops at Mitchell's, Smitten, and Humphry Slocombe! Enjoy your treats as you learn about the history of South Mission - San Francisco's neighborhood destination for food and culture. The tour will at end at a local taquiera. Copies of Ice Cream Travel Guide and t-shirts will be available for sale.
Expect ice cream flavors like ube (purple yam) ice cream from Mitchell's, secret breakfast (cornflakes and bourbon) from Humphry Slocombe or classic vanilla (made in front of your eyes with liquid nitrogen) from Smitten
What you need to know:
- Meet at Guerrero Park, located where San Jose Avenue and Guerrero Street meet
- Tour begins at 1:00 PM
- Rain or shine
- 2-3 hour tour over approximately 2 miles
- No pets allowed due to logistics and shop rules
- Wear comfortable shoes and clothing
- Tours will end at a local taquiera on 24th St near Harrison Street where we can chat, relax, and talk about the ice cream times!
- Bring cash to sample food (partnerships with local shops are in process, so jump into experiencing a pilot tour!)
Did you know?
Rocky Road was invented in early 1929 by William Dreyer in Oakland, California when. He mixed walnuts and marshmallows in his chocolate ice cream. The name was given in that fall after the Wall Street Crash "to give folks something to smile about in the midst of the Great Depression."
