Join us for the National History Day Philadelphia 2024 Kickoff as we celebrate the new season and its theme, Turning Points in History! Whether you have participated in NHD Philly in the past or are interested in learning about how to introduce this award-winning program to your school and students, the Kickoff will allow you to immerse yourself in the incredible possibilities of National History Day. Featuring a hands-on workshop and representatives from cultural institutions, libraries, and archives from across Philadelphia, this event will equip educators with the material and techniques for getting primary sources into their schools and in front of their students.

National History Day is an award-winning academic program that puts students at the heart of history making while helping develop valuable research, communication, and critical thinking skills. Students complete a project on the topic of their choosing via a format of their choosing including exhibits, papers, documentaries, websites, and performances. Find out how a project takes shape by attending the Kickoff workshop and leave with your own proto-project and materials for use in the classroom!

The NHD Philly 2024 Kickoff is proudly presented by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP) and the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (NSCDA/PA). NHD Philly is a collaborative organization representing dozens of cultural institutions, museums, and libraries from across Philadelphia whose expertise and dedication make NHD Philly possible and keep NHD Philly accessible.

Continuing education/Act 48 credit is available upon completion of this workshop.

NHD Philly is happy to provide light refreshments for all participants, as well as the opportunity to enter a raffle to win an Amazon gift card!

About the organizer

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is one of the oldest historical societies and one of the largest family history libraries in the nation. Following a complete merger with the Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies, HSP is also a leading repository of immigrant and ethnic history. It is second only to the Library of Congress for material on the nation’s founding and is the country’s third most popular destination for genealogical study. With approximately 21 million records including manuscripts, graphics, and books that span over 350 years of history, HSP is an invaluable resource for learning about our past.HSP serves thousands of on-site visitors each year. It also offers a research-by-mail service and extensive online resources, including a library catalog, finding aids, digital collection, and curricular materials. HSP hosts educator workshops and public programs, and publishes a quarterly scholarly journal. To learn more about HSP or to become a Friend, visit us at www.hsp.org.
