Nate Evans' Temptations Revue Honoring The Mississippi Freedom Riders
On January 10–14, 2017 the Dr. Bowie Scholarship Foundation will sponsor our fourth “Get on the Bus with the Original Mississippi Freedom Riders’ Cross Country Tour,” during the celebration of the 2017 MLK Holiday week. The Northeast Partnership for Economic Development, a coalition of 12 NE cities and Mayors, to include Cibolo, Converse, Garden Ridge, Kirby, Live Oak, Marion, New Berlin, Santa Clara, Schertz, Selma, Universal City and Windcrest, has joined with the Bowie Foundation to, once again, honor these Freedom Riders by presenting this history through youth summits at SAISD Wednesday, Sam Houston H.S. and Judson ISD Thursday, Judson Performing Arts Center, followed by the VIP Dinner and Temptations Concert Thursday night, 6pm at Cowboys Dancehall. A Friday night program will include a civil rights film screening, presentation of "Shout Freedom for the People - The Dance," "Tell their Story," Panel Discussion and “Passing of the Torch” Ceremony, 6pm at Hilton Garden Inn, Live Oak, TX. The Celebration will end, this year, with the first, historic replication of the 1961 "Bus Rides," lead by Greyhound, on the morning of Saturday, January 14, 2017, 8am, starting in Selma, TX. to Kirby for the annual MLK parade and Post Parade Festival, featuring a Gospel Extravaganza hosted by Rev. Emerson Allen, Petting zoo and other youth activities, food booths and more.
