About this event
Join us for one of NASBE's most popular professional development events, the New Member Institute! This year, the event will be held virtually, at no cost to new state board members. Nonmember states may register for a fee of $150 by contacting Sharon Cannon at the email below. New state board of education members who attend the New Member Institute will:
- Build the skills needed to do the job: parliamentary procedure, working with the state legislature and other key stakeholders, and working with fellow board members.
- Discuss common policy concerns and issues and discover real-world examples of how state boards of education are successfully addressing them.
- Establish working relationships with new state board of education members from across the country.
- Gain an understanding of NASBE’s resources and how the organization can help state boards in their important work.
Sessions will be held on three days throughout the summer starting in June. Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions:
- Session One, June 29, 2022, from 1-4 pm ET: The Role of a State Board Member, State Board Levers of Authority, and How to Lead for Lasting Change
- Session Two, July 27, 2022, from 1-4 pm ET: Parliamentary Procedure Training and Demonstration and Leading with Evidence
- Session Three, August 24, 2022,1-4 pm ET: The Federal Role in Education and Emerging Education Issues, Communications and Engagement, and working with your Legislature and Governor.
Register once for the full conference to attend all three sessions. Direct meeting links will be sent to registrants in advance of each individual session.
