Event description

Description

Nahid Rachlin is an Iranian-American author of several novels, short stories, and essays.

Persian Girls: A Memoir tells Rachlin’s true life the story of an Iranian girl growing up in a culture where, despite the Western reforms of the Shah, women had little power or autonomy.

A Way Home is a collection of 20 short stories of fiction, placed in contemporary Iran and the US. The characters in the stories not only long for home but face the question, "Where, really, is my home?" The stories also skillfully portray the tension between the social norms of Iran and the United States, while her characters attempt, often because of marriage, to adjust to a culture which is "foreign."

Rachlin attended Columbia University and Stanford University writing programs. Rachlin teaches at The New School University and a wide variety of Writers conferences in the U.S. and abroad. For more click on her website:
