Noeticus Addiction Counselor Clinical Training Program Description (NACCTP):

The Noeticus Addiction Counselor Clinical Training Program™ (NACCTP), a program of the Noeticus Center for Professional Development™ (NCPD), is delighted to offer a variety of professional classes, trainings, and supervisory opportunities designed to meet the requirements set forth by the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) and managed by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) for the Certified and/or Licensed Addiction Counselor credentials (CAC/LAC).

There are four levels of addiction counselor credentialing in Colorado and each is associated with a different level of training, experience, supervision, responsibility, and restriction. They are as follows:

  • Certified Addiction Counselor; Level One (CACI); Entry Practice Level
  • Certified Addiction Counselor; Level Two (CACII); Independent Practice Level
  • Certified Addiction Counselor; Level Three (CACIII); Supervisory Practice Level
  • Licensed Addiction Counselor; (LAC); Supervisory Practice Level with All Privileges of Licensure

OBH has identified two pathways by which to earn addiction counselor credentials in Colorado. Pathway 1 is typically reserved for individuals who have a high school diploma, GED, or baccalaureate degree. Individuals with a high school diploma or GED are only eligible to earn either the CACI or CACII credential. Individuals with a baccalaureate degree in the behavioral health sciences are eligible to earn a CACI, CACII, and CACIII. They may earn their CACI and CACII through a combination of clinically supervised work experience hours and OBH approved trainings. Individuals obtaining the CACII or CACIII must also provide proof of passing a national exam in addition to the previous requirements.

Individuals with advanced clinical degrees are also eligible to use Pathway 1, however they are typically directed to Pathway 2. Pathway 2 is only for individuals who hold a clinical master's or doctoral degree. They may earn their CACII, CACIII, and/or LAC through a combination of clinically supervised work experience hours, OBH approved trainings (or approved college equivalents), and proof of passing a national exam.

The curriculum of the Noeticus Addiction Counselor Clinical Training Program (NACCTP) is primarily designed to provide the OBH requirements for addiction professionals utilizing Pathway 2, or those who have an advanced clinical degree. Thus the majority of attendees at our trainings have completed or are in the process of completing a clinical master's or doctoral degree. This does not preclude Pathway 1 individuals or others seeking general continuing education from taking our classes or participating in our supervision/consultation opportunities, but the curricular flow is not specifically designed to meet their training requirements.

All of our trainings are also pre-approved by NAADAC and NBCC for continuing professional education and thus can be taken to meet licensure and certification renewal requirements beyond CAC and/or LAC credentialing as well as to stimulate and encourage ongoing professional learning and development.

Trainings Offered:

IMPORTANT: All trainings listed below seek to enhance the ability of the counselor to offer treatment services in a manner that respects gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, cultural, familial, systemic, and socioeconomic diversity.
