Event description
NAAM invites community members, donors, and friends to reflect upon NAAM's past, celebrate its successes & preview what's on the horizon.

About this Event

NAAM's origins date back to 1985, in the midst of the global anti-apartheid movement, when a committed group of community members boldly occupied the vacant Colman School building from 1985 to 1993 to preserve it "in the spirit of Frederick Douglass, Nat Turner, and John Brown", that it one day become the African American Heritage Museum and Cultural Center. After years of both community contestation and collaboration, the Northwest African American Museum was opened to the public as a museum on March 8, 2008. Join us as we look back and look forward, reflecting on our 12th anniversary.
