Description

The NAACP Main Line Branch is excited to announce its Freedom Fund Luncheon that will take place on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at 11:30 am. It will be held at Mt. Zion AME Church, 380

North Fairfield Road, Devon, PA. The purpose of this luncheon is to serve as a fundraiser celebrating 88 years of fighting for civil rights on the Main Line. The six townships which fall within the jurisdiction of the branch include Lower Merion, Upper Merion, Haverford, Tredyffrin/Easttown, Radnor, and Great Valley. The work of the branch is accomplished through the various committees to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination”.

Although there are approximately sixteen committees through which the branch operates, the National Office has identified what they reference as the game changers, representing the core essentials which in one way or another impacts everyone. These game changers are Economic Sustainability, Education, Health, Public Safety, and Criminal Justice, Voting Rights, and Political Representation, and Youth and Young Adult Engagement. This luncheon will be an opportunity to highlight the work of the Main Line Branch for this year, solicit memberships to continue bringing people into the fold, and raise funds which allow for resources to effectively communicate information which informs, requires action, and permits adequate advocacy.

The theme for the luncheon is Legacy - Champions of Change. Throughout the civil rights movement, there have been those individuals who by their personal activism impacted the lives of individuals and communities. Therefore, the honorees selected are first those champions who for years as members diligently served the Main Line Branch. They are Barbara Butler, Reverend Albert G. Davis, Jr., Roscoe Draper, Joyce Gibbs, Louise Gibbs, Hellen Salters, Geraldine W. Talley, and Verona Vance. Secondly, we will recognize an individual who broke barriers within the Main Line Community and who continues to work for equality and diversity in the area of employment. This honoree is Nolan N. Atkinson, Jr., Esquire.

The branch very much looks forward to your support. Tickets are $45.00 for Adults and $30.00 for College & Youth ages 21 and under.
