About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Join us for a Two Brooks Walk and Butterfly Count.

A circular walk, along Walton Cardiff Lane to The Derek Graham Playground and the start of footpath ZTE 16. The path leads us to the Tirle Brook , under Jubilee way and on to the Nature Reserve. We take a right turn and come out at Morrisons. Carrying on we find a footpath through the woods past the old railway junction and down Station Lane. Taking another right turn we come to some meadows in the Carrant Brook floodplain. We skirt the edge of Mitton and return to Newtown along Green Lane.

We will look for suitable spots along the way to do one or two 15 minute butterfly counts.

There could be nettles and brambles along part of the path. Flat shoes or walking boots are recommended, and some protective , lightweight clothing for arms and legs and a sun hat,

If it is light showers the walk will go ahead. If there is heavy rain we will abandon the walk and we could arrange to meet again on a better day later on in the week.

The butterfly Conservation website has a handy section showing the British butterflies and how to identify them: https://butterfly-conservation.org/butterflies/identify-a-butterfly. There is an i record butterflies app you can get from itunes of google store.
