Event description
Screening of "My Beautiful Stutter" to benefit Saint Louis University's Reinert Speech Language Hearing Clinic

About this Event

Saint Louis University’s Reinert Speech Language Hearing Clinic invites you to join us to attend a special viewing of the award-winning film “My Beautiful Stutter” (movie trailer at bottom of page).

The not-for-profit Reinert Speech Language Hearing Clinic provides no-fee comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a wide range of communication disorders to clients of all ages, abilities and income levels in our community, while training and teaching future speech-language pathologists.

We can continue to fulfill our mission of effective, individualized services and quality education thanks in part to donations from our clients and the community. 100% of your gift of financial support for a ticket to view "My Beautiful Stutter" during our live stream event will directly benefit the clinic, allowing us to continue serving our community by providing for therapy materials, testing supplies, PPE, technologies, and teaching tools to improve both the availability of services for our clients and state-of-the-art education for our graduate student clinicians. We are excited to bring you this opportunity to view a film that highlights the lives and stories of those with communication disorders and differences and puts front-and-center why we do what we do every day.

Upon completing your checkout in Eventbrite, you will receive your ticket in an email with the link to join our virtual live streaming event.

Event will begin with a live stream of the film at 5:00pm. Following the film, there will be a brief informational session with the chance to hear first person accounts from members of our community who will share their journey with communication differences. Matice Morris, a native St. Louisan, YouTube star, advocate, author and person who stutters will have a message for our audience and a chance to win her book!

We will conclude our event with drawings for those in attendance to win door prizes from our sponsors!

"My Beautiful Stutter follows five kids who stutter, ages 9 to 18, from all over the United States and all walks of life, who, after experiencing a lifetime of bullying and stigmatization, meet other children who stutter at an interactive arts-based program, The Stuttering Association for the Young, based in New York City. Their journey to SAY find some close to suicide, others withdrawn and fearful, exhausted and defeated from failed fluency training, societal pressures to not stutter or the decision to remain silent. Over the course of a year we witness first hand the incredible transformation that happens when these young people of wildly different backgrounds experience for the first time the revolutionary idea at the heart of SAY: that it's okay to stutter."
