MWBA December Restoration Day on Mt. Lowe Railway Trail
Overview
MWBA is heading further up the mountain to this month for a hike-in workday on Mt. Lowe Railway Trail (12W14.A). This is the connector trail between the bottom of Middle Sam Merril and the junction of Chaney and Sunset Ridge trails. Cleaning up this stretch will let us steadily push our restoration efforts towards Middle Sam Merril further up the mountain. Volunteers will be restoring tread and landslides on the trail, which burned in the 2025 Eaton Fire and is currently in rough shape. After a morning of satisfying restoration work, we will gather at on the trail to share a hearty lunch and stories from the day.
Due to limited vehicle access at the staging area, we are limiting headcount to 25 this month. PLEASE only RSVP if you are able to join us and let us know if your plans change and you are unable join.
Staging and sign-in this month will be at the southwest lot of Loma Alta Park on Palm Street. This is the same meeting spot as our October and November dig days. We will load tools and carpool up the gated Chaney Trail to the work sites. Please indicate on your RSVP if you are willing to transport at least 4 volunteers in your vehicle. Crossover or SUV ground clearance is REQUIRED this month for volunteers helping us shuttle volunteers.
As always, no trail work experience is necessary to join us on trail! We will provide the tools and guidance for a fun and productive day in the forest.
Please bring the following in preparation for a successful day out on the trail:
- Trail work clothing: long sleeve shirt, long pants, sturdy shoes, eye protection are required.
- A hydration pack or backpack able to carry water and snacks while working on the trail.
