Our next meeting is at 6 p.m., Sat., Feb 11th, Duke's Chowderhouse in Southcenter. Pierce County Chief of Police Paul Pastor will be our speaker. 

Sheriff Pastor has an impressive bio! He has two master's degrees and a doctorate from Yale. He has lectured in several programs at the FBI Academy in Quantico and received two special commendations from the Director of the FBI for his contributions to law enforcement management training.

He commands 307 law enforcement officers, 314 Corrections Officers and 112 civilian personnel in his Department.

He also has helped design national model procedures for policing mass civil distrubances, and helped develop the National Sheriff's Association Weapons of Mass Destruction training program. 

So come hear one of Western Washington's top law enforcement officials speak and enjoy a meal and networking with fellow mystery writers and fans.  


Below is Sheriff Pastor's full bio:

Paul Pastor currently serves as Sheriff of Pierce County, Washington.  The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department consists of 307 law enforcement officers, 314 Corrections Officers and 112 civilian personnel serving in Washington State’s second largest County.

 Prior to taking this position, he served as Chief of the Department’s Operations Bureau in charge of all law enforcement operations (1996 – 2000),  Undersheriff for the Clark County Washington Sheriff’s Office (1993 - 1996) and Chief of Police for the city of Everett, Washington (1991 - 1992).  From 1986 to 1991, he served at the rank of Inspector for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

 In the early 1980’s, he was in charge of state staff at the Washington Criminal Justice Training Academy where he also managed the Loaned Executive Program and Washington Crime Watch.

 He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Pomona College as well as two Master’s degrees and a Doctorate from Yale University.

 He has lectured in several programs at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and has received two special commendations from the Director of the FBI for his contributions to law enforcement management training.

 He is a graduate of the FBI’s National Executive Institute and is a Senior Fellow in the American Leadership Forum.

 \He helped design the national model procedures for policing mass civil disturbance after the World Trade Organization riot in Seattle and also consulted to the International Olympic Security Committee in Salt Lake City in 2001.  He has  served on state and national committees for emergency mobilization, ethics, homeland security and  and intelligence. In 2004 helped develop the National Sheriff’s Association Weapons of Mass Destruction training program.  In addition, he helped develop the Washington State law on police use of lethal force and the Northwest Law Enforcement Executive Command College. He recently led the effort to develop the Pierce County Criminal Justice Vision Plan.
