Description

We welcome the entire community to an evening of interfaith understanding and empowerment as we hear from Muslim women from across Southern Minnesota. Our keynote speakers will highlight the challenges and successes facing Muslims in Minnesota, especially Muslim women. The event will include a community discussion and Q&A facilitated by Regina Mustafa, founder of Community Interfaith Dialogue on Islam (CIDI). The event is free. Refreshments will be provided.

About Ashalul:
Ashalul Aden is a longtime Rochester, Minnesota resident. In 2016, she graduated with honors from John Marshall High School. She is currently a senior at Luther College majoring in Political Science and Religion. She works as a U.S. Students of Color Outreach Assistant at the Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success, is the current President of Interfaith in Action and Vice President of Black Student Union.

About Fardousa:
Fardousa Jama, a long-time Mankato resident, community activist and director of a local non-profit organization and who ran to represent Ward 3 on the Mankato City Council last year.Through her work as the executive director of the Barwaaqo Organization, Fardousa has gained attention for her leadership and community impact, including recognition as a YWCA Young Woman of Distinction and Salvation Army Volunteer of the Year. In her work within the community, Fardousa has worked on programs like the Emerging Workforce Coalition (with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development), organizing community events like Breaking The Fast, and participating in things like the Youth and Cops soccer program, Fardousa had the opportunity to work with Mankato’s business community, neighborhood associations and public safety. as well as working with Meals on Wheels, Bundle Me Warm and other programs through the Salvation Army, Fardousa also been able to work with some of Mankato’s marginalized families. Fardousa also has done a Tedx talking about knowing your own worth.
