Musical Soulmates presents a gorgeous and intimate livestream: classical art songs, poetry, and solo piano; much music by Black composers.

About this Event

This concert completes this Musical Soulmates fundraiser of of $1,000 minimum EACH for Music in May and for NAACP, Santa Cruz Chapter.

Featured live soloists are Leberta Lorál (rescheduled from December 12), Soprano, and Diane Syrcle, Soprano, both supported by Kate Alm, piano. Rich in music by women , especially women of color, this program also features Robert Schumann's song cycle: The Life and Love of a Woman. Mostly classical, the concert has a treasure from Holly Near : 'Simply Love'. Musical Soulmates again lovingly welcomes Danusha Laméris, former Poet Laureate of Santa Cruz, contributing prerecorded video of her poems. Additionally,Musical Soulmates is absolutely thrilled to welcome Victoria Theodore: past pianist for Stevie Wonder, current pianist for Beyoncé, singer, songwriter, director: top tier musician. Her contribution to our livestream, also prerecorded, will be her performance, just for us, of classical music by a Black woman composer and she will speak to her experience growing up as a Black Classical artist.

The unmasked musicians performing live at Calvary Episcopal Church for this livestream will have tested negative for COVID within days of this event; all live participants will have quarantined specifically for this live event.
