Event description

Description

Project LINK participates in Hillsborough Community College annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. service day projects. This year Project LINK has developed an initiative called "Music to my feet". The event addresses the basic need of shoeless and ill-fitting shoes on students within the Tampa Bay community. We know that food, shelter, and shoes facilitate life's fundamentals. Our goal is to bring awareness to footcare and make sure children have properly fitting gym shoes and socks.

"Music to my feet" will help eliminate one of poverty’s most visible stigmas and pursue our goal that no child endures the unnecessary physical and emotional distress that accompanies wearing socks/shoes that are grossly inadequate.

One of Dr. King's quote "We cannot walk alone" and in my view, particularly, if we cannot walk in comfort. Along with the risk of sickness, a shoeless life could mean a lost opportunity to receive an quality education in which we all deserve.

Please join us in our SNEAKER drive by dropping off a pair of your OLD SNEAKERS and NEW SOCKS. During the sneaker drop-off, volunteers will accept the sneaker donations, and distribute health related information.
The profits from the used sneakers will be utilized to purchase NEW SHOES. With the help of school social workers and local support agencies the new shoes and socks will be distributed to targeted homeless students throughout the area.
