We would like to invite you to our 7th annual Making Music Being Well Hong Kong in July 2017.

This year, our theme is


This year, we will be conducting a half-day workshop on Music Therapy in the Community, where audience is invited to be a part of the music therapy experience as our Registered Music Therapists share with them how music therapy is used in our community.


There will be 3 components in this year’s workshop – Presentation, Performance and Jamming.


  • Presentation: One of the components is to invite those presenters at the World Congress of Music Therapy 2017 in Japan to present in MMBW in Hong Kong so that the general public who will not be able to go to Japan will get a chance to see the presentations of our music therapists too and be part of the conference


Home-based CD project: using music to enhance children’s development in the Cantonese population

& Mr. Kingman Chung (BA, MMT, RMT)

 Three Registered Music Therapists (RMTs) from Hong Kong worked together to create the CD project entitled “Music at Home Social at Ease”, where they put together originally composed Cantonese songs to encourage parents to bond with their children in home-based music activities with goals targeting on social and communication development.



Community Music Therapy: Community Music Therapy in Umbrella Revolution

 Ms. Chau Suet Yan, Cat (RMT, NRMT, CMT, NMT, RSW)

During the Umbrella Revolution, the presenter, a music therapist, cooperated with community artists to collect stories of those with different political stance in the community. Through the process of song writing, dance movements and drawings with community members, the presenter witnessed the power of community music therapy.





  • Performance: Our other component is performance by clients, where we will invite client groups to perform in front of the audience to showcase their effort and positive outcomes


TWGHs Kwan Fong Kai Chi School —TWGHs KFKC Music Team

東華三院群芳啟智學校 群芳啟智同樂團

TWGHs Kwan Fong Kai Chi School is a special school for students with moderate intellectual disability aged between 6 and 20 years old. The School pledges to carry out the spirit of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in developing comprehensive and multifarious services for special education needs students to exert their full potentialities and support their learning, eventually, to serve the community.

 In response to student needs and with the understanding of the impact of improving students’ learning motivations and abilities, the School provides additional supports for students with a team of therapy specialists. Besides Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Educational Psychologists,the school also has a full-time Music Therapist with Registered Teacher qualification to provide music therapy services to students.

 TWGHs KFKC Music Team is a group of students aged from 13 to 18 with moderate intellectual disabilities, and some with autism spectrum disorder. They meet and make music together once a week throughout theschool year. In this performance, they would love to share the live music with younger students in school while they are exercising in the morning. They also hope that the students not only enjoy the live music, but also engage better in doing daily exercise.


ELCHK Men in Jazz


 “Men in Jazz” is a project carried out by the Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service-Hong Kong (ELCHK) and was first established in 2011. Members of Men in Jazz constituted of men over the age of 50 and are at their golden age. Most of our band members do not possess any music background.

 The mission of Men in Jazz is mainly to provide these men with solace and mental support. The band quickly became a place where they were able to relieve their stresses from work and find peace. The music they shared also created a post retirement social network for them. For those who had missed out on the opportunity to pursue music during their younger days, Men in Jazz can help to revive their dreams.


“We can’t speak, but we can sing”
The Hong Kong Stroke Choir


 The Hong Kong Stroke Choir is the first local choir that utilize music therapy and community music to help stroke survivors / patients of speech difficulties sing from their hearts. Over the past year, The Hong Kong Stroke Choir has been actively engaged in public performances and bringing positive energy in our communities.

The choir not only serves to bond stroke members together to establish peer support networks, it also enhances individual confidence,group creativity and creates a sense of achievement! Their performances and CD have helped to increase public awareness and understanding about stroke.




  • Jamming: Our last component is 4 different concurrent jamming sessions and each music therapist will be responsible to hold one session and audience is invited to choose ONE jamming session to participate


Ms. Vivian Chan(MMT, NMT, MT-BC, MTA)

 Music and the arts are not only creative means of self expression, they are also a way through which people connect and resonate with each other. Join us for a 45 minute session of art and music to bond and reconnect with yourself, and with those around you.

There are no prior experiences or skills required to attend except to come with an open mind and heart. We can accommodate 15-20 explorers. So, come as you are to experience your creative selves at your own pace and comfort level with others in your community through art creation and music!



Ms. Cheung Kit Yang, Carol (RMT, NMT)

Our voice is the most intimate , unique and powerful instrument. Using our voice might expose our vulnerability, but may also empower us. This activity-based improvisation workshop helps you to get in touch with your body, find ways to use your voice in therapeutic settings.

Please note this is NOT a singing class! You do not need to have vocal background,



Mr. Kingman Chung (BA, MMT, RMT)

 Songwriting is one of the common therapeutic interventions that is often used in music therapy to meet the client’s needs. Music therapists can create songs for clients. These songs are created as a music tool to achieve specific goals and purposes, for instance, promoting their self-esteem, coping skills, and empowerment.

 Join us to compose our own song together and experience the power of music!



Mr. Ng Wai Man (MAMT, MAMusPsy, PGDipMT, GradDip GIM, BMus, BSc, RMT-UK, RGIMT)

Listening to music is a common method for relaxation. However, if we want to achieve a more relaxed state, the use of both music and imagery can work more effectively in doing so. In this workshop, participants will experience guided imagery without music and guided imagery with music.

Participants will experience a musical journey whilst listening to a series of classical music and learning how to apply this method at home for daily relaxation.

Making Music Being Well was inaugurated in 2006 in Australia and was extended to Hong Kong in 2011.
