Event description

Description

In the 1960s, Billy Name brought a red couch into Andy Warhol's Factory, and it organically became the best place to crash for many of his overnight guests. In the spirit of Warhol's Factory, Factory Berlin invites widely praised and respected guests from the arts and creative scene to come and speak on our very own red couch from Vitra.

The first guest that we are honored to host on the red couch will be Mark Reeder. Mark is a musician, record producer, remixer and film maker of "B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West-Berlin 1979-1989". 'MUSIC IN BERLIN: THEN AND NOW' will be a discussion about the fascinating account of 80s underground music culture in Berlin, both East and West and what Reeder is up to now. Moderated by Katia Isakoff, a composer, music producer, and the founder of !N_KoL//\\B; a new music series.

Schedule:

6:00 – 6:30pm: Doors open

6:30 pm: Welcome on stage

6:35 – 7:15 pm: Moderated talk with Mark Reeder and Katia Isakoff

7:15 – 7:30 pm: Open Q&A

7.30pm – 8.30pm: Drinks/reception

About Mark Reeder:

“A little bit of research into Berlin’s music history, and Mark Reeder’s name will probably appear. Since moving to Berlin from Manchester in 1978, he has worked as Germany’s rep for Factory Records, toured with New Order, managed Malaria!, organized the first secret punk rock show in East Berlin, was certified ‘subversiv dekadent’ by the Stasi, and produced the last record ever produced in East Germany (which was also the only record ever made by an Englishman in the DDR). And that was just before the wall came down. Since then, he was the one to discover Paul van Dyk in 1990, and sign him to his record label MFS, which was also responsible for coining the term ‘trance music.’ On top of that, he was also in his own band Die Unbekannten (later Shark Vegas), which has since developed its own cult status.” stilinberlin.de

Enjoy two official remixes Mark did for New Order: Academic & The Game and be sure to check out the creative young band from Chengdu called 'STOLEN', who he's currently producing and reactivated his MFS label for.

About Katia Isakoff:

Katia Isakoff is a composer, music producer, and the founder of !N_KoL//\\B; a new music series bringing together pioneering, established, and emerging artists, to collaborate in various studios and pop-up locations. She is currently working on the first series with electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani, Marta Salogni (Bjork) and Anil Aykan (Fragile Self).

Katia’s compositions, performances and productions first appeared in the Add N To (X) album Loud Like Nature (Mute Records, 2002) and later in a Steven Spielberg TV series, amongst others.
