Event description

Description

There is something truly magical about live music by the water’s edge. Whether it’s the fresh open air, the still water of the river, or the ebb and flow of a musician’s melodies, we always find ourselves enchanted by the sights and sounds. This is the magical spell of Music by the River featuring the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. Music by the River is proudly presented by Icon Water and Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.

This is the fourth year the Canberra Symphony Orchestra has played as part of Music by the River and the signature event attracts music lovers from across the region.

Join us for some orchestral classics from Mozart, Vivaldi, Haydn, Elgar and others. Held in Queen Elizabeth II Park on the banks of the Queanbeyan River, this concert is one the whole family will enjoy.

Members of the public are welcome to start their night from 4pm. Allocated seating will be open, food will be served and the river will be lapping at the shore ready for a night of music! If you need help finding your seat please approach a friendly QPRC staff member to assist you. If you book allocated seating, you will need to bring your ticket with you on the night - either printed or electronically.

FAQs

What are the differences between allocated and free areas?

Allocated seating is a combination of chairs in the amphitheatre and reserved seating on the concrete terraces. Please select your seating based on your needs and the needs of the people coming with you. Each person within your group will need a seat allocated to them. Click on the TICKETS button to see the two types of allocated seating. If you choose a concrete seat, we encourage you to bring a cushion.

Free seating (general admission) has no allocated location, but please book to help with event planning. General admission is available anywhere in the park (excluding the allocated amphitheatre seating) or on the grass banks on both sides of the river.

Allocated/ticketed seating

Allocated seating space within the Queen Elizabeth II Park’s Amphitheatre is not suitable for people with:

  • wheelchairs or walkers. An area will be reserved for people in wheelchairs on a first come first served basis. Those wanting to locate this area should approach a friendly QPRC employee for assistance.

  • Prams or pushers. There will also be space allocated for pram parking. Prams can be parked in this location so they don’t obstruct others view of the stage.

  • Large coolers or picnic blankets. Best to grab a spot on the lawn if wanting to spread out.

General Admission (both sides of the river)

Guests are also welcome to seat themselves on the grassed riverbank with a picnic blanket or lowered seating. This seating is FREE - bring as many people as you like. This year, sound will be projected on to both sides of the river. You are welcome to sit on the grass banks near Ray Morton Park or Queen Elizabeth II Park.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This event is open to all ages and lovers of music. There is a licenced area which will require ID for purchase.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Free parking is available at Riverside Plaza, Kmart, or Collett St car-park (behind the bus interchange). Bike racks are availalbe on site and Queen Elizabeth II Park is connected to the Queanbeyan Riverwalk footpath network.

What can I bring into the event?

For dinner, you are invited to bring your own picnic or you can experience local gourmet street food - beer and wine tasting also available.

Depending on when you arrive at Queen Elizabeth II Park and where you will be seated you could be in the afternoon sun or the cool of the evening, so please bring those things that will make you most comfortable throughout the concert, including an umbrella just in case.

What is the wet weather plan?

The weather is always an important factor when planning events in our region. As with any outdoor event, preparation is the key to comfort. In the unlikely event that the Symphony by the River is postponed or cancelled due to bad weather you will be informed by Council’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and the main website page (www.qprc.nsw.gov.au).

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

If you have any additional questions please contact events@qprc.nsw.gov.au
