About this Event

Our popular annual “In Remembrance” concert returns this season, with musicians Laura Veeze, Rafael Hoekman, Sarah Ho, and narrator D.T. Baker. The theme is “1914”: All the music on the program was composed in that year, and the poetry, read by D.T. Baker, will center around WWI.

We hope you will join us for a moving evening, as we listen, remember, and connect, through music and poetry.

Laura Veeze has performed throughout Europe as a soloist, recitalist and chamber player. A versatile ensemble player, Ms. Veeze has performed with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonietta Amsterdam, the Holland Symfonia and the European Union Chamber Orchestra. Laura is a member of the first violin section of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and Principal Second Violin of the Alberta Baroque Ensemble.

Rafael Hoekman is Principal Cellist of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and a faculty member at the University of Alberta. He has been featured as soloist with the ESO, the Calgary Philharmonic, Quebec Symphony and the Newfoundland Symphony. He was a founding member of the Tokai String Quartet – a prize winner at the 2007 Banff International String Quartet Competition.

Sarah Ho has performed internationally as a soloist and ensemble player with orchestras including the ESO, the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. A frequent participant in summer festivals, she has appeared at Schleswig-Holstein in Germany, Harbin Summer Music Festival in China, New York’s Weekend of Chamber Music, and The Banff Festival of the Arts. Sarah is a graduate of Indiana University and Yale University.

2019 marks 41 years in the music profession for D.T. Baker, much of that spent sharing his passion, insight, and knowledge with the public. He has been a broadcaster, music writer, lecturer, and author and has worked in many aspects of the music business: radio, print media, recording labels, and music-making organizations. Presently Musicologist & Interpreter for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra & the Winspear Centre, he also maintains a busy freelance schedule as an instructor, writer, and photographer.
