Event description

Description

A special African theme for today’s Museum Mile walk. We start with a visit to the Sainsbury African Galleries at the British Museum where our guide has selected several of this gallery’s artefacts. We then go to the Brunei Gallery to see its special exhibition African Gaze - Hollywood, Bollywood and Nollywood. This exhibition consists of West African film posters from the Thakar Collections, which are hand-painted advertisements for a wide variety of American, Indian and West African films. We then go on to view two other exhibitions at the Brunei Gallery – one The Art of Postal Art the work of the Sudanese artist Hassan Musa, and the other Ruhleben 1914-1918 which considers some of the ways the First World War impacted on African and Arab civilians in Germany.

The walk last 3 hours and will end near Russell Square at 7pm.

Today’s walk visits the British Museum and the Brunei Gallery, but our guide will also mention the other eleven members of the Museum Mile to encourage people to visit them in the future. For a full list of all members of the Museum Mile visit www.museum-mile.org.uk
