Musculoskeletal Applications Through Orthopaedic Practice
The goal of this course is to present the basic concepts of musculoskeletal injury and disease in order to provide a framework for further knowledge acquisition during the clinical rotations. Each module will be taught by Midwest Orthopaedic Institute Physicians or Staff.
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
Perform a basic musculoskeletal exam for the major anatomic areas - spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, and foot.
Recognize common patterns of musculoskeletal injury and disease utilizing history and physical exam, with application of clinical anatomy.
Interpret musculoskeletal x-rays of common injuries, fractures, and degenerative conditions.
Assess patients with overuse, degenerative, and traumatic problems and describe treatment options.
Determine appropriate rehabilitation after injury/treatment and understand therapy modalities.
The course consists of weekly 1-1.5 hour classroom sessions and elective reading materials.
Student evaluation is by end of lecture quizzes and final examinations
Each course will represent 1.5 CEU credits for Athletic Trainers and Physical Therapists.
