Event description
142 years ago, John Tunstall was gunned down in a remote canyon, igniting the Lincoln County War. Join us as we retrace his final steps.

About this Event

Join the staff of Lincoln Historic Site on a guided tour to the site of John Tunstall’s murder on February 18th of 1878.

Guests will meet at the Lincoln Historic Site visitor center at 1pm for a brief introduction to the events that started the Lincoln County War.

The event will include a tour of the Tunstall Store and Tunstall’s grave, followed by a caravan to the murder site. At the murder site, costumed interpreters will lead guests through the very wilderness that was the beginning of “The Lincoln County War!”

All participants must provide their own transportation to the murder site. All wheel drive vehicles are not required but we HIGHLY recommend that your vehicle have high clearance. The road to the site is an unpaved Forest Service road through mountainous terrain.
