What is Model United Nations (MUN)? MUN is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations (UN) and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organized by a college club (MUN Official Website). Participants: work in committees which build communication skills verbally, draft resolutions which build written communication skills, meet students from across the world, and are faced to make decisions quickly and carefully. MUN is highly respected around the globe, and many U.S. State Department employees have background with MUN.
What is there to gain from attending this event? Our chapter of MUN is about to experience some very dramatic budget cuts over the next two years. I (Christian Miller) decided to go out of the realm of usual fundraising ideas, and think of something that would help our organization, and give attendees something for their money. I thought the best way to do this was to host a dinner (Black-Tie) and give the opportunity to people to network with elected officials in the community, elected officials on the state level, and elected officials on the federal level. This is also an opportunity to appreciate the talent that attends NKU. The string quintet that will be providing the music are all NKU students, and the art work that will be up for sale will be pieces made by NKU art students. Who will be at this event? A Representative from the U.S. Department of State will be the Keynote Speaker, Local Elected Officials, State Elected Officials, Federal Elected Officials, Community Members, and Students.
