Welcome to the NSP MTR level 1 for 2017
NSP Course#

This year we are at RoundTop Ski Patrol.

1. Click above GREEN REGISTER button and complete registration form.

2. Return here and CLICK HERE to register with NSP.

Your first assignment is to find it on the map and get yourself and your gear there for an 8:00 am sign in on Sat. Nov. 21st.

We will be working out of Roundtop patrol building and spending Saturday night outdoors.

Several of the instructor staff will be there late Friday afternoon.  You are welcome to show up then if you wish to spend an extra night outdoors.  Please be prepared to be outside for the majority of the day on Saturday and all day on Sunday.

Rain, shine or snow we will be outdoors and we will be sleeping out Saturday night, so keep your eyes on the forecast and come prepared.

This course requires a moderate level of stamina as we will be moving on foot around the mountain at various times throughout the weekend.   Sturdy footwear is required.  Be prepared to cook all of your meals outdoors for the entire weekend.

Pre-work:  There is some pre-course work that we would like you to complete before your arrival.

  1. 1.      Knots:  The knot web site below is a great resource. If you don’t already know them, please learn to tie a water knot, a figure eight and a traced figure eight, a fisherman’s knot, Prusik knot and clove hitch.  Other knots will be taught at the course as needed.

  1. 2.      Gear:  There is also an equipment/gear session taught as a lecture.  Students should bring a show and tell for that section.  This can be any piece of clothing or equipment that you feel is unique and that the class can benefit from.  Be prepared to discuss your choice.

  1. 3.      Intro to the Incident Command System (ICS 100): Go to the following website and take the online FEMA course.  It will take about 2 hours.  Bring a copy of your certificate to the course.

1.4 National Incident Management System (NIMS - IS-700A ) An Introduction - Course Overview

This course introduces and overviews the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents.

Agenda:  A tentative agenda for the course will be sent separately.  As you’ll see, it’s a busy weekend so please arrive on time so we can get started, finish on time and leave everyone some breathing room to set up their camps for the night.

Packing List:  A packing list will also be sent out prior the course.

That’s all for now; there may be further communiqués from other instructors keep an eye on your email.  If there are questions about the course, pre-work, or anything else, please contact me.

See you all on Saturday, November 18th
