Mt. Mitchell Tour 4.0
Sun, April 23, 2017, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM EDT
Carolina Cycle Tours offers this day tour for those cyclists looking for a challenge! Whether you are training for the Assault on Mt. Mitchell, or just looking to conquer the highest mountain peak East of the Mississippi, this tour delivers. The 28-mile outbound segment includes the legendary 21-mile climb through the forest and on to the scenic beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Once we make the turn into Mt. Mitchell State Park, it’s a mere 4.7 miles at a moderate 5.5% grade to the summit, where you’ll be welcomed with hot or cold drinks and a full gourmet picnic lunch. Celebrate your summit victory with friends and companion riders with pictures on the observation deck at 6,684 feet. Enjoy the spectacular vista, made ever sweeter by the accomplishment of arriving under your own two legs. Riders have the option of making the 1 ½ hour descent in the team van, or riding down on two wheels. Got the guts? Summit Victory awaits…
The 4.0 tour is designed to be ridden in approximately 4 hours. (see “Which Ride is Right for Me?”) There will be mandatory stops at the top of Hwy. 80, and at Black Mountain Gap near the entrance into Mt. Mitchell State Park. The Fine Print
Weather can be unpredictable in the high mountains. View Mt. Mitchell Info. If the weather is deemed un-rideable under safe conditions, this tour may be cancelled up to 48 hours prior to tour start (see cancellation policy). If the chance of significant rain is 50% or greater, or if the wind or other environmental factors make riding exceptionally difficult, CCT will defer the tour to a later date. Nonetheless, riders should expect some wind and a possibility of precipitation. Riders should bring appropriate gear for a variety of weather conditions including cold weather. Gear can be worn or carried up in the team van and made available to riders on an as-needed basis. CCT will have select clothing items available for inclement conditions. When in doubt, bring it for the team van. All riders must ride along with or behind the lead guide rider. The trailing guide and/or team van will bring up the rear of the group, at all times. On the descent, it is prohibited to pass the lead guide. Please Note that tours not reaching the minimum number of riders (6) will be subject to rescheduling.
