Description

For the October 2017 Mississippi PowerShell User Group virtual meeting, Microsoft MVP Kirk Munro will be presenting Getting started with Azure Functions on Tuesday, October 10th at 8:30pm central time.

Have you started looking at Azure Functions yet? Does the term "serverless computing" seem like nothing more than an oxymoron to you? Did you know that the Azure Function Apps team added experimental support for Azure Functions written in PowerShell before the product even went GA a year ago? Or that Azure Function Apps really are not specific to Azure, and they are important whether you run infrastructure on Azure or not? Well now you know, and it's a great time to start experimenting! In this presentation, Kirk will introduce you to serverless computing and Azure Functions, discuss why it is really, really important for you to add these tools to your toolbelt (even if you don't use Microsoft Azure), and demonstrate just how easy it can be to get started. Topics discussed will include Azure Function Apps, Azure Functions, PowerShell (of course!), Azure Logic Apps, Azure Event Grid Subscriptions, and more!

Kirk Munro is the world's first self-proclaimed Poshoholic, and a 10-time PowerShell MVP. Since being bitten by the PowerShell (PoSh) bug in 2006, Kirk has spent almost all of his time using and helping others learn PowerShell and automation, in roles of developer, evangelist, trainer, architect, Product Manager, and Director. These days he works as Director of Learning Solutions at Learn on Demand Systems, where he continues helping others learn by focusing on new technologies that enrich the learning experience even more. Outside of work, Kirk is returning to his software developer roots, learning mobile technologies like Xamarin and Ruby on Rails, and taking courses online whenever he can make the time to do so.

The Mississippi PowerShell User Group Meetings are held online (via Skype for Business) on the second Tuesday of each month at 8:30pm Central Time and are free to attend. The system requirements to attend these online meetings can be found on the MSPSUG website under the “Attendee Info” section.
