"Spirituality and the Final Season of Our Lives – The Struggle to Give Our Deaths Away"
"Home is where we start from!" T.S. Eliot wrote those words and, in the course of our lives, we must leave home a number of times: Early on, we leave home so as to build our own lives. Then, having found our way home again, we live our adult lives inside a home. But, we must all leave home again, when we die. This journey, the final stage of our lives, is what the mystics call "the dark night of the spirit." How do we do this so that our deaths become our final gift to our loved ones?
This year's speaker at the Annual Msgr. William Steele Lecture will be Rev. Ronald Rolheiser, O.M.I. Rev. Rolheiser is president of the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas. He is a community-builder, lecturer and writer. His books are popular throughout the English-speaking world and his weekly column is carried by more than seventy newspapers worldwide.
