Description

MSC WELL CASING AND CEMENTING REMEDIATION WEBINAR SERIES
June 24, July 8 and July 22, 2020

Unconventional horizontal drilling and completions in the Marcellus has a relatively short history in Pennsylvania, beginning in the early 2000’s. Numerous technological advances have been made in a brief period of time in order to make the process more efficient and effective. One of the largest learning curves has been the advancement of detecting and remediating casing and cementing issues during and after drilling. Operators have used multiple techniques with varying successes, however, over time, a few unique solutions have been proven as efficient and cost effective.

This unique webinar series will feature three companies currently active in Pennsylvania that have used techniques to remediate casing and cementing issues either during plugging operations or during active well operations. They will focus on the root cause of the issue and the evolution of the technique that was utilized to remediate the situation. Each webinar will include a technical presentation plus time for an engaging question and answer session with the presenter.

AGENDA

JUNE 24, 2020
1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Remedial Work on Parent/Child Interaction During a Hydraulic Fracturing Operation

Max Goff, Staff Production Engineer, Chesapeake Energy

Chesapeake Energy will present a case study of remedial work that was conducted after a parent/child interaction during hydraulic fracturing operations. After communication was experienced in an uncemented zone, an attempt to recement the annulus was unsuccessful and was followed up with a suicide squeeze. The operation was a success and hydraulic fracturing operations were able to continue.

JULY 8, 2020
1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Case History for Plugging and Abandonment Activities on a Multi-well Pad

Chris Roberts, Assistant Completions Superintendent, Chief Oil & Gas

Chief Oil and Gas will present a case study of P&A work that was performed on a multi-well Marcellus pad. After completing all downhole plugging operations on an individual well, operations moved to the next well and continued well by well with a “plug to surface” approach. After plugging three out of four wells on the pad, a resurgence of gas was observed at surface on the previously plugged wellbores. The key lessons learned on this project include treating all wells on a pad as one system and development our current systematic plugging approach.

JULY 22, 2020
1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Casing Failure and Remediation Case Study

Zach Zimmer, PE, Drilling Manager, PennEnergy Resources

PennEnergy Resources will present a case study surrounding casing failure and remediation. After completing two stages on a horizontal Upper Devonian well in Beaver County, PA pressure was observed in the backside of the 5-1/2” casing. Several pressure tests to different depths were completed and the leak was identified at 30’ below ground level. This case study details the remediation of this leak along with the lessons learned while doing so.
